Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery is a family owned farm that dates back to the 1790’s and continues today by creatively tying the roots of the past to the progressive practices of the present. Maine’s harsh climate is difficult for growing grapes, but by utilizing an excellent site and selecting some of the most cold-tolerant varieties, the vineyard has become the state’s most productive. Today, 15 years since planting the first vines, the award-winning winery produces fifteen wines from grapes and wild blueberries, grown right on the farm. Come meet Elmer and Holly Savage and chat about their wine.
Along with the Barn Red, St. Georges white, and the Vineyard Blues Rose we usually serve, we’ll be featuring
Entwined–100% Maine grown grape wine, a semi-sweet white. It’s a blend of St.Pepin and LaCrosse grapes. A light, fruit forward wine with notes of apple, peach and pear. It is similar to an off-dry Riesling and the residual sugar, 2.5%.
Come Spring–100% Maine grown grape wine, off-dry red wine. Named for the Ben Ames Williams novel about the founders of our town, the St.Croix and Frontenac grapes make this blend featuring black cherry and plum flavors with a blackberry finish. Residual sugar; 2.0%.
We’ll have wine flights and wine by the glass for $6 (usually $8!) and we’ll be offering baked tortilla lasagna–a Fatty twist on a classic recipe, spicy, and served with a salad of greens, shaved carrots, cabbage, and delicata squash with a maple balsamic dressing for $12.
