Get Your Word Buzz On: With LaLa Drew
The “Word Buzz” series continues in 2019 on Thursday, January 10, from 6:00-8:00 pm with LaLa Drew—a poet, Portland Phoenix and former Black Girl in Maine contributor, Tales of Black-Winged Night author, and BloodLetting creator. Word Buzz is an informal, once monthly chat with people in the word biz and 10% of sales during the event are donated to Webster Library in Kingfield.
LaLa Drew is a local poet and black queer adoptee with a passion for writing whose poetry centers around race, truth, experience, love, and dreams. Their writing for the Phoenix and the Black Girl in Maine blog focuses on inspiring activism and raising awareness of racial justice and human rights issues. BloodLetting is a poetry night LaLa created to amplify and uplift the voices of QTPOC and Femme POC.
LaLa has lived on this planet for 28 years and nearly all of them have been lived in Maine. Poetry is their focus, though they love and appreciate all the magic which words can create. “I’m on a constant quest to re-write myself. Call myself back into existence. I experience life through emotions, touch, taste, smell. I love everything unctuous and passionate. I’m a seeker of truth in both myself, and the world around me.”
This is a great event to catch as you head up to Sugarloaf’s LGBTQ and Ally ski weekend (January 10-13). Please join us for LaLa’s powerful words as we ring in the new year with beauty and fire!
The Rolling Fatties restaurant and bar at 268 Main Street in Kingfield is open Wednesday and Thursday 3-8, Friday and Saturday 12-8, and Sunday 12-6. The next love-centric Word Buzz event is Thursday, February 14.
